Garden

Life is better with a garden. Life is abundant in a garden-birds and butterflies-bees and bugs. Life is transformative in a garden-changing every day-a different perspective in every angle. Life just seems to slow down with a garden around-multitasking is simply walking and gazing. A life without plants and trees and shrubs is not natural and, I would argue, straight up unhealthy.

Our gardens start with a conversation about functional needs and aesthetic possibilities. Then the pencil and the paper drill down the details. The plants are selected native to the site as best as possible and careful attention made for a continuous bloom ultimately ending with brilliant fall colors.

I vividly remember taking the bus along Kerlin St. in Chester, PA. We would pass by a mason yard daily. I was never bored gazing at all the different piles of stone inside the fenced in yard. The sign had a muscle bound man on it-these images never left my mind. Many years later I find myself in a happy spot with my arms wrapped around a slab of flagstone-staring now at the puzzle I started.

Nature sets the pace when it comes to our stonework. Using all natural flagstone to create an authentic North East appeal we weave design amongst function.

About Us

Steve Jones

Steve started in the trade working in the nursery end before he was hired by Creative Landscapes and quickly ascended to running garden and hardscape installation. This grizzled veteran has been putting trees and plants all over the Delaware Valley for 20 years now. Steve reinforces the functionality of our designs, or better said, he brings the wisdom to the table. Practicality in a design is mistaken for mundane at times-but simplification has its own beauty. Now close your eyes and picture John Muir incarnate tending to your gardens-there ya go. A fan of all sports and well read on the history of music-specifically punk rock. You will find Steve walking his dogs where he lives with his wife in Drexel Hill.

I'll admit it, I chased the dollar. Inevitably I realized I wasn't meant for a retail environment. One thing I did know is I had a passion for all things outside. I had been experimenting with different design concepts and plantings and stone all my life. My mother was always in a garden growing up and I know how happy that made her. What if I could help other people have the same feeling, through the beauty of nature. After leaving the race-I jumped into the world of horticulture by volunteering at Tyler Arboretum and Shofuso Japanese house in Philadelphia. Along the way I met many important contacts, but none finer than Donald Pell. I worked At Donald Pell Gardens for years learning from the best about a professional approach to the business. Alas, I still had many years of business management under my belt and a burning urge to work closer to my family and community. So this is how Farnan Garden and Stone was created. Oh yeah-I love punk rock music-mountain biking and snowboarding too.
